It’s hard to beat a carpet of cowslips in the middle of spring, self-seeding gently through the front of a border or in short grass. They thrive on chalk, but here on heavy clay, they’re naturalising well even in our (sometimes) damp meadow. I adore the scent, so love to have enough in the garden to pick for a regular vase.
